I simply love this image of Rika when I was reading Air Gear (you can find this image in Vol.5, Chapter 40). The details in the wings are so amazing. The title, Icarus was mentioned in the manga so I figure it's perfect for this wallpaper. The wallpaper is based off the Greek mythology about Icarus, who flew too close to the sun and melted his wax wings, and fell to his death.

I redrew all the lines, the longest and most tiring part was the wings (like I said, there's so much details in them, I really thought tears were going to fall). The wings alone took about 10 hours. For the background, I vectored in some birds to add to the symbolism. Then I tried to make a dream-like state (I really tried). Added some noise to give it an "ancient" look and black borders for a dramatic look.

This wallpaper has been sitting on my hardrive for quite a while but then I recently started listening to Overkooled, one of the soundtrack from the Air Gear's OST. It inspired me greatly to work on it again.
