Anyone else watching/watched this one? :3
I started watching a couple of weeks back, and I gotta say my opinion of it keeps flipping back and forth. I'm on episode 17 now, so getting close-ish to the ending.
On the one hand the plot premise has sooo much awesome great potential and things that I like. Emo boy trying to overthrow oppressive empire, with a strong stubborn sense of what "justice" should be (sorta like Raito in Death Note and that was hawt stuff xD); best friend who's just as set on walking down the path he's chosen, which happens to be for the opposition. Character design by CLAMP, which is hawesome (I'm a die-hard Clamp fan, have been for a long time ;D). And even though Lelouch has the "Geass" and help in the form of a pretty cool witch C.C., the power distribution isn't too overwhelmingly one-sided so that you still get quite a tangible sense of a running chess game with fairly balanced sides fighting for (world) dominance.
The thing that drags my approval ratings down for this series is, the cool characters are very cool, but the bad characters are... very bad. Not bad in the sense that they're evil (and I kinda like how most characters so far aren't pure good or pure evil), but that they're just... bad. If I can shoot all the female members of the Ashford Academy student council (minus Lelouch and Kallen) I would do so gleefully, without a second thought. Actually I don't like the guy on the council too, he's rather useless. But in a nutshell they're brainless, focuses on annoying little things, somewhat fan-servicy and probably the most one-dimensional characters out of the cast. My hatred for them got so bad that up to the episode where Shirley confronts Lelouch, I was totally like YEAH GET RID OF HER! DDD: I feel like that episode was supposed to be touching, but I just couldn't get into it at all. Definitely happy that most of them are really just fading into the background. Lloyd is another character that I'm not a huge fan of (I think it's that nasal whiny voice for the most part) but he's definitely not as bad as those girls. Urgh. Apart from that... the only other bone I have to pick is, the OPs and EDs are pretty awful. The second OP and ED I like a lot better, but it's been a while since I watched something that didn't make me think "must get this OST ASAP!"
But yeah I'll definitely be finishing this series, although I've heard some not-so-great things about how this first season ended. Also despite my ranting I definitely am enjoying this series overall... was worth checking out xD

Code Geass is good, but also has a couple of flaws, mostly around the end of the first season. One thing though, CLAMP is not involved in it. All CLAMP did was doing concept art for some of the characters, but the actual character design of the show is handled by Takahiro Kimura (character designer of GUNxSWORD, Godannar, GaoGaiGar, etc. ) and it shows a lot. I mostly watched this because of the director, Goro Taniguchi, who's one of my favorite ones (he directed PlanetES, Infinite Ryvius, s-CRY-ed, and GUNxSWORD). I am definetely looking forward to the second season though, hoping it'll be more interesting and deep, and less a train-wreck show like it seemed to be in the latest episodes.
ShiNN is suddenly alive XD I love how you pop up and post a bunch of neat tidbits and insight about the anime industry. I'm on episode 22 now, holding off on seeing the ending because I want to wall the series - definitely have heard iffy rumors about it though so I'm keeping my expectations tempered, which will hopefully help. I'm looking forward to a second season is well. The only other thing I wanted to say was, I'd give CLAMP a little more credit for the character design. Not least because they flash CLAMP so prominently in the opening credits for character design lol, given what you posted I'm thinking it might be more of a marketing ploy since CLAMP is so popular... but (don't know if anyone else felt this) well into the first half of the series whenever I see Suzaku I felt like I was watching a slightly tweaked version of Syaoran from Tsubasa xD Which if I may add I completely had no problems with - that boy is hot lol.
EDIT: Couldn't stop watching after I hit episode 22. All I can say right now is... oh my f**ing god...
AHHHHHHHH T__T DXXXXX

Hahaha Kallen/Suzaku... XD It might happen, who knows? I liked Suzaku/Euphie just fine but then the creators just trampled all over that... Gah my brain still twitches when I think about it and that ending... DX Although I did think Lelouche wasn't strong enough of a "bad guy" if you know what I mean, like in comparison to Raito Lelouche was a bit wishy-washy. That ending totally twisted THAT idea out... DX!
When exactly is the second season coming out?
When exactly is the second season coming out?
Next year, during spring, most likely. Right now Sunrise has got Gundam 00 going on, and once it'll get to the end of the first half (around episode 25) they'll interrupt it to switch it Geass' second season.
