The MV for Utada's Passion is probably one of my favorite videos of all time... for gorgeous animation :D

it takes some time but it works for me if you cover everything up except like her feet and bottom of her legs. Then just from that convince yourself shes turning the other way. Then you can either slowly uncover it and it should work....

Haha so, as always I'm reading the Answerman column on ANN, and then I came across this week's flake. BEST ONE EVAR!
The flake from last week was someone who had sent in a kaiku that wasn't in the 5-7-5 format, so this week someone sent this in:
"that's not a haiku
haiku is five seven five
you stupid nitwit"
Ahahahha I'm still cracking up whenever I read it...
(I pulled an all-nighter last night launching the new version of pixel ellipsis so cut me some slack, thx xD)

And I guess you can find last week's flake from there as well XDD

A very random but interesting look at the new game Rock Band. I find it interesting not for the game per se , but more so for the more general theme its getting at of where people these days opt to "simulate" reality rather then live it. The example of Rock band, people rather pretend to play guitar through a game devoting countless hours to it, rather then take the same time to learn the real instrument. Rock band itself provides a new element since its a group game which begs the question of, if you and your friends are going to be spending so much time getting together to play a game, why not actually form a band and rock it out for real?
And on a different note, a cool animated music video I found that I tohught people here would like.

Yeah, that music video was pretty awesome XD
Definitely reminds me a lot of Guitar Hero. I've mentioned it briefly to people who I never in a thousand years would've put down as gaming people, and they'll say they adore Guitar Hero. It's an easy way to sorta feel a thrill of accomplishment while not having to put in any hard work to gain all the skills you need to be a really good musician x3; Actually on this, last night I went out to dinner with my manager and his bunch of friends (all in their 30s, and definitely not people who look like they'd actively game) and they talked really animatedly about playing that Raymond Rabbit game together on the wii lol. It's kind of neat how video games are bringing people of all ages together; the wii in particular, last night they were also sharing stories about grandparents playing the wii, and how one grandmother would swing her arm so hard playing bowling on wii that the friend was worried she'd injure herself xD

Yea rockband is essentially just a boosted up version of Guitar Hero so its in the same vein. The game is definitely fun, I can't deny that. One of my roomates is a huge fan of it and I've played it somewhat extensively myself. But I just find it fascinating that some people would rather spend time "practicing" Guitar Hero rather then real guitar.
I honestly find it scary to be honest, I mean things like this among a crapload of other developments that have society going on an ever increasing slant toward digitizing literally every facet of life, sort of in the line of Baudrillard's notions of simulacrum where the concept of reality is beginning to be broken down and redefined; i.e. "a simulacrum is not a copy of the real, but becomes truth in its own right".
Whether its true or not, this same mate in question told me of his friend who was selling his guitar cause he was now going to just play guitar hero. I mean seriously wtf, I guess you could say for this guy playing the game is reality, but even if you suck donkey balls at playing I dont think a mere game can replace the satisfaction of knowing that you are actually making music yourself.
