I know FF3 was released recently... I heard co-workers say great things about it and also read a pretty good review for it, so decided to give it a shot tonight. I had it installed for all of about 2 minutes but then quickly reverted back to the old FF2 after a bit of control panel tinkering and restarting of computer. The main and only reason was I couldn't use most of my extensions with the new version of Firefox! Super DragAndGo, Mouse Gestures... I can't live without those add ons! T_T I liked what little I saw of the new interface though. I know (or hope) that the extensions problem is something that time will fix so I can migrate to it later. In the meantime I thought I'd ask if any of you have upgraded to the new version and what you think of it if you have... or if you haven't xD
Brom told me about it the day it came out so I installed it on Derek's laptop, but everytime I tried to Browse the computer to upload something in say, Photobucket, it would freeze. Also, the Encoding on some of the text would go all funny and I wouldn't be able to read anything on some sites, XD. I only missed updates on two of my Add-Ons though, most of them updated themselves, or had updates on the Add-On site. I ended up reverting it because of the freezing issue, I just had to go and dig out the old install file from Mozilla.
I do have it installed on my work computer though. And I love it. :D
Haha yeah? I'm surprised about the freezing issue, I thought I read somewhere that it's less resource-intensive than FF2! Do you think it's because Derek's laptop can't handle it?
Also, just yesterday I think I got a new firefox 2 security update. I guess they're still trying to work out some bumps before prompting everyone to update to the new version. I wish I can find the original article I read on it but I guess this CNET article comes pretty close.
I just updated Derek's FF2, er, too, so yeah, I think there's still some things to finish before they start asking everyone to upgrade to 3. As far as the freezing, no, I don't think it's a matter of handling it. Firefox and Pidgin were the only things running at the time and I've run much more on this without it freezing, so I think the current FF3 just hates Derek's laptop, XD.
I haven't had that many problems with FF3. Migrating forced me to update the majority of my extensions or force them to work.
I think only one didn't have any updates/couldn't be forced to work. =(
The memory usage is better, smaller chance of memory leaks. The new awesome bar is okay, I've installed an extension to revert the look to the FF2 style but it retains the new searching algorthim.
The new theme is pretty ugly imho, but this can be remided by installing a new theme or even an FF2 theme.
Otherwise it's been great so far, only 1% of the sites I browse have issues with it and I'm sure those will be fixed over time.
I like the history thing in the address bar most.. very easy to find specific pages. It has worked very well for me, though. I was kind of surprised when gid mentioned how many problems she was having. :b oh well, hopefully they will be resolved pretty soon.
