I've been thinking about all of the suggestions made before regarding IN4. It's about 80% complete and is coming along quite well. I should be able to knock-off a good chunk of the remaining work over break. Here are some of my thoughts and questions:
The board is given more focus. I think it's one of the stronger aspects of this community.
I've begun to implement doodads (non-wall res submissions).
I strongly agree with the move towards art in general. I think we've come a long way (both as a community as well as each of our individual styles) since IN1, where it was primarily an anime wallpaper-based community. I've been wondering how to drive it further and what would be necessary for this progression. I've been thinking about the doodads (which this was a major factor in it's consideration) and projects, if we could rocket those into something more substantial, it could get interesting. Projects will definitely have a stronger presence as well.
As for the closed community suggestion, I know we've had mixed feelings about this in the past, and decided to open it back up again. I do agree with having a closer-knit community, but I feel like there might still be some room to grow. I might just want to leave it open until a large flux of registrations are apparent, if it ever happens.
In any case, please give me some feedback, so I know where to go with any last-minute decisions. Thanks!

I think that sounds really good (nothing else needs to be said by me lol)
Yep, that sounds awesome. I'm really anticipating IN4 because lately I've been in the mood for CHANGE! Lol. I don't have anything really to add apart from little bugs and such that I randomly come across and post about in these two threads:
and
So full steam ahead and let us know if you need beta testing help or whatever x]

I especially would like to try my hand at some non wall res stuff, so I like the encouragement in that area of things. I think it sounds great so far, Na!
Oh one thing I thought of that might be good for posterity's sake - add a doodad section to the guide
I think it can pretty much be the same as the original walls sections (without the resolutions limit). Might be good to add in something about not submitting a wall and a doodad version of the same thing since that'd just be redundant.

Flyin: good point about the guide, I'll get that in there.
I also forgot to mention that userpages will be more elaborate (bio blurb, recent desktops, doodads, board posts, and finally, a guestbook!)
My thinking was that doodads could possibly lead us into deeper exploration of different styles. Wallpapers are nice, but at least for me, they are 1) time-consuming due to resolution (they are a big ordeal) and 2) there is somewhat of a templamatic/systematic approach to the layout process (icon space, busyness, orientation, etc). It'd be interesting to be able see what types of things would pop up when you can just whip something out really quick. I'd love to see things like series' of images that are part of one collective, from projects and individuals alike. I'm actually pretty excited to see how this works out.

You should make a news post on the front page announcing this ;)

I noticed that the category system is getting a bit cluttered. I was thinking about having submissions grouped together by dates/year and make it so that it automatically puts it in the right place when you submit something. I feel like it would make things a bit more tidy and also make submitting one step easier.
Projects on the other hand, will still be named.
Flyin suggested that maybe we could group submissions in this manner, but still have the regular category name displayed with the thumbnail (there would be a textbox for it's related category if you wanted to input it, but you wouldn't actually choose from a list).
Does this seem viable?
BTW, IN4 is pretty much in it's final stages. Once I (maybe) implement this new system, it will be right around the corner.

it sounds interesting but in my opinion the category system you have now is fine.
