what are some mangakas who you respect and like they're work.
Naoki Urasawa
the latest manga I read was by him, 20th century boys, I really like hes style he makes things be very suspenseful and addictive, you don't want to stop reading his suspense mangas, I tried reading some other of his stuff and happy! was one of them it kinda surprised me because it contains no suspense and is sort of a happy story about tennis, yeah the tittle should have been a tip off, but a story about a girl who gets into dept and is forced to turn into a whore is what I read it was about, I thought kinda depressing story but I guess the manga lives up to its tittle.
but I love some of his other work like monster which I believe is something that everyone should read.
suspense is his weapon I believe thats what makes him a great mangaka the way he plays with suspense and the pacing of a manga, pluto is indeed a great work, I love that its situated in osama tezuka astroboy world
YAMAMOTO Hideo
I am waiting for homunculus vol 9 to come out that series is really really good.
I like hes style, how he likes to do themes which you normally don't see everywhere, he likes to show odd things, like how people get pleasure in some sort of taboo things, like we see how he plays with pleasure in ichi the killer, showing how a person can get pleasure from murder or just violence, or how a person has pleasure in making other be in pain, or being a voyeur, he is a very interesting mangaka indeed, may be to crude for some.
I also like homunculus its story that deals with allot of psychological stuff, I like that the main character is some sort of psychiatrist but instead of talking with the person to see what the root of the problem is he sees it as some sort of weird physical trait, that only he can see, example he sees someone who might be a robot or someone who is made of sand homunculis as they are called in the manga.
INOUE Takehiko
this is someone who's art is what I like the most probably, but he is really good with a story I really like the way you get into one of his sports mangas like slam dunk which in my opinion is the best sports manga ever, and the art is just wow I really like hes way of drawing I think hes one of the best in the industry, he evolves and shows of hes incredible talent in vagabond, I love to look at all the details in every panel and its just great, id honestly recommend reading vagabond just for the art but the story is there, he really is doing an amazing job with it.
I have also read REAL which is good, I don't know how he does it but he develops characters and makes sports seem so interesting its a gift and I guess he is so good doing sports mangas because he loves them so much.

Hiroaki Samura
His manga Blade Of The Immortal is my favorite manga (aside from yotsubato!) The way he draws is fantastic, they are anatomically correct and very detailed it's almost like you're looking at life drawing studies. His artwork has a sketchy feel to it but it doesn't make you think that it's unfinished, far from it.
Boti is morbid in some ways but Hiroaki Samura's style of telling a story is great, nothing is too heavy that a bit of levity won't dispel. Instead of making the manga have this black and white idea of good and evil...it's actually full of gray areas, every perspective are explored, antagonists befriend protagonists and vice versa. I just love it, period. xD
Azuma Kiyohiko
I respect him for making adorable characters that doesn't look like some pedo would take interest on them :D For having a great sense of humor to make mundane things funny.

Oh yeah Azuma Kiyohiko xD Nothing but love for the mind who could create such a sweet, lovable, and hilarious series as Yotsubato xD
This is kinda funny, but I read a lot more manga back in middle/high in Taiwan, so most of the mangakas that I followed back then I think of them in Chinese haha - somewhat rough equivalent of their names in kanji, but not in English. Let's see... *digs*
CLAMP, for certain, one of the groups that got me started on the road to crazy manga/anime fandom for their variety and crazy experimentation with all sorts of different genres, gorgeous art, interesting stories for most of their series... really lovable characters... I can go on and on. I think I'll be a hardcore CLAMP fangirl forever ; D;
Ai Yazawa! For some amazing shoujo series and again awesome style... love for Nana and Parakiss xD
Back in Taiwan when I would skimp lunch to save money to buy manga, I got a lot of stuff from shoujo mangakas like Arina Tanemura (although the only thing she's done that I really really liked was Full Moon wo Sagashite; I.O.N. I also liked as a short series). Miho Obana was another one, but again I was only really impressed with Kodomo no Omocha. Pochi was ok too as a short story, but that was the only one I really liked out of that collection of short stories. God Kodocha was fantastic, but I didn't like her next series Partner at all. For shonen, Nobuhiro Watsuki for Rurouni Kenshin; Hiroyuki Takei for Shaman King; Yoshihiro Togashi for Hunter x Hunter. For most of these mangakas I didn't really follow, outside of keeping track of them in the occasional purchasing of the Taiwanese equivalent of Shonen Jump (and Ribon). Nobuhiro Watsuki peaked with Kenshin though I think, I remember reading the short story he drew after Kenshin - some weird thing about a boy who got hit with a meteorite that got stuck in his skull... I was pretty much like wtf? Anyways I only remember these names because I liked those series enough way back when to buy them. Shaman King started to drag though and Hunter x Hunter got really weird, so I never kept up with those. Gosho Aoyama for Detective Conan was another huge favorite. God that's a series that will never end...

I have never read yotsubato, but ive been told that its really great.
OTOMO Katsuhiro
is another artist who I really like, AKIRA is one of my fav mangas, the art is mindblowing, all the details are amazing, I love the format of those books, you can really admire the art and see every detail because the pages are so big, I also liked Domu alot, but AKIRA of course is his epic and best work, its sad to see a mangaka like him disapearing, yeah he has been doing other stuff he directed the live action mushishi movie, id love to see something new by him and not just have AKIRA be hes last manga, well he did do a oneshot after it but thats it.

Yukito Kishiro
Pretty much solely for GUNNM which has most defintely reached one of my favorite mangas ever. Incredible story, and amazing art to go along with it.
Hiroki Endo
I have to say hes a personal favorite of mine though he hasnt done a whole lot. The only title to date hes done is Eden which is basically one of the greatest pieces of manga I have ever had the pleasure to see, and a handful of small stories hes done that are actually just as good.
Tsutomu Nihei
Seriously, this guys art is just amazing. His stories arent as special though they are somewhat unique, i.e. Blame

yeah Tsutomu Nihei I like hes art very much, in blame you can see the influence of having studied architecture, I think maybe thats what helps him make unique bg or setting more then anything
im still on vol 5 of eden so I havent come to a conclusion about him but I am liking that series very much.
